Derek Blumke, Chief Executive Officer

Derek co-founded and served as the Executive Director and President of Student Veterans of America (SVA), which has grown to over 1,300 chapters on college and university campuses in all 50 states and globally.

Over the past four years, Derek has served as a business development executive at two rapid growth technology firms, Hirepurpose and Fullbridge. Additionally, Derek was the founding director of one of the VA Secretary’s 21st Century Transformation Initiatives.
Derek received a BA from The University of Michigan and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from Syracuse University. He is a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and is a veteran of the United States Air Force.


James McGuirk, Chief Hardware Officer

James worked in the Rapid Technology Development & Fielding Lab at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he supported the development of prototypes for government agencies.

James went on to serve as a Patent Examiner in the United States Patent and Trademark Office where he prosecuted patents on new aerospace and automobile technology.
In 2008, James assisted in building and co-managed the Veterans First Program at Las Positas College. James has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Berkeley, is a graduate of the Ignite Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and served in the United States Army as an Infantryman in the 10th Mountain Division.


Kathy Borkoski, Chief Operating Officer

Kathy is an executer. She helped start up and served as the Chief Operating Officer of Trident Proposal Management. She led the scaling of Trident to more than 30 employees and $3M in annual revenue, while helping their clients to receive over $4.5 Billion in government contracts in the company’s first six years of growth.

Kathy also founded KB Software Solutions & Design, led a successful Kickstarter campaign for the launch of a children’s book, and performed as a stunt double for Titanic II, Workaholics and Bionic Builders. Kathy earned her BS in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. She is a US Navy Veteran where she served two deployments to Iraq and the Philippines as a Navy Diver and EOD Officer (bomb disposal technician).


Brian Alden

Brian is a software savant. He is TripSafe’s Co-Founder and the lead technology advisor. Brian worked as a research analyst for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), where he used his 16 years of software development experience to write programs that analyzed simulations within the Large Hadron Collider.

Brian is a Ph.D. Candidate in Astro Physics at CU Boulder. He received his BS in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics at George Washington University. He is a US Marine Corps Veteran, where he served three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
